Heathers: High School Edition

In one week, the KES production of Heathers will hit the stage. This show is a dark comedy that is certain to entertain.

Every year KES produces three theatrical productions: a senior musical, a junior musical, and a senior play. With each production, the students are engaged in the process and the value of the learning experiences is powerful. This particular show really resonates with the students, and they have enjoyed engaging with the more serious nature of the topics presented. The rehearsal process is intense. Our students have made a significant commitment to squeeze in rehearsals on top of their already busy schedules. They also spend hours of their own time working on memorizing their lines, songs, and choreography; this commitment is impressive!

Although Heathers is a comedy that includes a lot of upbeat songs and dance numbers, it also deals with many serious issues. Sometimes tackling these topics can be emotionally draining. Every now and then we need a moment to decompress. At the end of last week’s rehearsal, the cast members took some time to free-write how they were feeling about the show, their lives, and their stress levels. After balling up those pieces of paper, they ceremoniously threw them on the bonfire, and we enjoyed some time together roasting marshmallows and relaxing.

Performance dates:
November 25 – 7:00pm
