Boarding Houseparent -- Male Residence

King’s-Edgehill School is seeking a Houseparent for the 2022-23 school year. As a Houseparent in the main dorm, you will report to the Head of Male Residence, and oversee the students assigned to your flat. We are looking for an enthusiastic team player who will uphold our ideals of gentleness, learning, dignity, and respect in their role. This position will include on campus lodging.
House parent Responsibilities Overview (students on your own flat):
  • Attend breakfast and carry out breakfast sign-in from 7:00-7:45 am (Monday-Friday)
  • Perform room inspection at 8:00 am (Monday-Friday) ensuring all rooms are free from clutter, damage, and safety hazards.
  • Perform Sunday # 1 Room Inspections and house meetings with the students on your flat.
  • Oversee student leaves and permissions (REACH)
  • Maintain a daily visible presence on your flat and keep in close contact with your students regarding all aspects of their life (academic, social, emotional, physical health).
  • Hold regular flat meetings to discuss dormitory and school-wide issues and events.
  • Plan flat nights and special get-together for your flat (reasons to celebrate!)
  • Participate in residential activities and events and all KES compulsory events (Move In Day, Carnival, Spirit Days, Carol Service, Headmasters Dinner, Cadet Parade and Review, etc.).
  • Attend house parent and faculty professional development the week prior to Opening Day (last week of August).
Main Residence Duty Particulars:
  • Weekly residence duty – one evening a week you will relieve the faculty duty teacher at 9:30pm and carry out the lights out routine for the boarders.  This runs until approximately 11:15pm.
  • Weekend residence duty – on a rotational basis as assigned by the Head of Residence. Duty begins at 11pm on Friday evening and runs through Sunday at lights out.  You are required to sleep in the dormitory on duty weekends (Friday-Sunday).
  • Attend house parent meetings (bi-weekly)
  • Weekend Activity Animation – 10 days per year (typically on Saturday but can also be scheduled for holidays such as the Monday of a long weekend, Friday evenings or Sundays) you will supervise on or off-campus activities.  These could include School centered activities such as an event in the gym/student centre or a games night, day trips to Halifax or New Minas, or excursions such as ski trips or sea kayaking. House parents are encouraged to help in the planning of these activities. Please note that this activity could last most of the day.
