A Simpler Time

King’s-Edgehill School is proud to introduce its fourth Senior School play production, A Simpler Time, which brings together a group of passionate and dedicated students from Grades 10-12.

A Simpler Time is a collection of short comedies that is presented to you through the wonderful world of time travel. In an hour and a half, you will follow the lives of teenagers Marley, Chris, and Taylor who are desperately looking for a break from their chaotic, modern lives. With the world’s problems weighing heavily on their shoulders, they prepare to use a time machine to find “a simpler time”. They jump from a common household in the medieval ages, to a busy switchboard in the 1940s, and they even find themselves caught up in the future! A Simpler Time is brought to you by enthusiastic and spirited students who are bursting with bright talent.

In preparation for their shows on April 12 and 13 we are excited to present three members of our gifted cast and crew in the weekly newsletter to give you a sneak peak of the incredible talent you can expect to see! We hope you will support them by attending our performances in the spring.

Tanvi Manchineni ‘24
Tanvi is originally from England but is living locally now. She is in Grade 12 and in her sixth year at KES. She has always enjoyed theatre and has been a part of every King’s-Edgehill production since her first year in Grade 7. Tanvi loved being a part of and choreographing Matilda this fall, and she has also been in many KES productions including Frozen Jr '20, Heathers '21, Clue: On Stage '22, and The Little Mermaid '23. She is also co-captain of the KES varsity dance team. Her love of theatre started when she saw Wicked performed in London and her love for the arts has only grown. Tanvi recommends the arts to others because the experiences you have and the friends you make along the way in the fine arts community are phenomenal. Tanvi is looking forward to her role as Marley and she cannot wait to perform!

Emily Mei ‘24
This is Emily’s seventh and final year at King's-Edgehill School! She is the performing arts executive council co-head and is widely seen within the fine arts pillar as she has participated in every production since her Grade 6 year. Highlights include Frozen Jr. '20, Heathers '21, Clue: On Stage! '22, and most recently Matilda '23 where she was Lavender. Emily is a co-captain of the KES dance team, in IB visual art and music, sings in the School choir, and continues her dance education outside of KES where she hits the stage for The Nutcracker every December and will be dancing as Anna in Frozen for her recital in June. She is excited to perform in A Simpler Time and hopes that the audience will enjoy the many stories this play encompasses! Emily will be completing the trio of main characters as Chris this April.

Sabine Wellard ‘24
Sabine hails from Nova Scotia and is currently in Grade 12. This is her sixth and final year at KES. She has been in five musicals and two plays during her time at the School. The thing she likes best about theatre is the way the actors can pull you into the world of the story through challenging work and props. As a small child, she enjoyed playing make-believe and liked the idea of doing it onstage. She believes everyone should join a theatre production at some point in their lives because you develop public speaking skills and become more comfortable being yourself in uncomfortable and unfamiliar situations of all kinds. In addition to theatre, Sabine is in IB visual arts and takes part in the Improv Club every week. Good luck as Taylor, Sabine!
