• Highlanders Girls Basketball

    2021 - 2022
    Head Coach: Andy Field

King’s-Edgehill Highlanders Basketball Program is a high-performance girls’ basketball team who compete at the highest level both in Canada and the USA. The KES Highlanders Basketball Program has established itself a powerhouse girls high school program in Atlantic Canada. We take pride in representing Atlantic Canada and its rich basketball heritage.

Each day is designed to take another step forward as a program, play a phenomenal style of basketball and to develop the student-athletes into strong NCAA, U Sports, CCAA players. Historically, the team has remained in the Canadian Prep Basketball Sweet 16 National Ranking List, placing it amongst the best high school basketball teams in Canada.

We are unique in the world of competitive basketball as all our players attend King’s-Edgehill School. KES was established in 1788 and is the oldest independent school in North America. KES offers the full IB program, and the school has a phenomenal academic reputation. All members of the prep team are members of the honor roll, and they take their academics seriously. We believe that a sound basketball program is built upon a foundation of academic excellence, social and emotional intelligence and great physical fitness. Our players excel in the classroom and on the court. High-character, hard-working and a team-first mentality are the attributes we value most in players. We encourage players to be confident leaders and maintain a humble demeanor.

The members of The Highlanders Basketball team practice five days per week. They also receive a weekly individual or small group session with their coaches. There are opportunities for morning shoot-arounds each week and they can get into the gym during their free periods to complete their required shooting program. Players follow a strength and conditioning program designed by our team trainer and they have access to onsite physiotherapy. Our players are given a massive amount of court time to develop both their team skills and individual skills.

Bringing in guest coaches is a regular occurrence at KES. We are fortunate to have many university coaches and skills coaches come to visit to work with our players. We believe in having an open-door policy and work tirelessly to integrate with the basketball community both in Canada and the USA. Our players are heavily recruited, and the majority go on to play basketball either in Canada or the US.  We empower players to be actively involved in the recruiting process and view post-secondary recruitment as a strong partnership between players, their families, university coaches and KES coaches.

Our coaching staff collaborates with our Junior Girls program to encourage player development and create a seamless transition from one level to the next. We believe that working with younger players will ultimately prepare them to compete at the highest level in high school. Our Highlander girls are like big sisters to our younger players and have opportunities to mentor junior players.

    KES Prep Basketball competes in:
The New England Preparatory School Athletic Council
A variety of tournaments against Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association teams.
Against local high schools, colleges and universities (closed scrimmages).
    The Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational.
The Independent Schools National Championship in North Carolina.

KES Highlanders Girls Basketball Program is a place where great student-athletes can thrive. We are relentless in our pursuit of excellence on the court and in the classroom.
