Athletes of the Week

Athletes of the Week (AOW) are selected based on athletic performance and sportsmanship. Positive sporting behaviour is valued at KES and integral to our athletic philosophy and School mission statement emphasizing gentleness, learning, dignity, and respect. These student athletes also reflect the seven principles of “true sport” which states: go for it, play fair, respect others, keep it fun, stay healthy, include everyone, and give back.  

Connor Mezenberg ‘28 has emerged as a very smart and intense athlete in the Junior School. He played a key role in recent games and practices and also suits up with the development hockey team. He’s a gamer! 

Hilary Shaw ‘29 shows her leadership and dedication to the D1 girls basketball team on and off the court. She leads by example with her positive attitude and is always encouraging her teammates. She is a force on the court and always picks the best warm-up music. Keep up the great work, Hilary!

Roh Hendsbee ’24 has consistently worked hard to become a valuable leader on the girls hockey team over the January stretch. Her efforts are paying off and are invaluable to the team’s success. Recently, Roh took a stride this past weekend in our first PPHL league action. She led by example with her play but also had a very positive outlook on the bench and put others on her back and carried them through the tough weekend. As a captain of this team, it was great to see her take control of that road trip and we look to see that continue for the rest of the season. Great work, Roh!

Carter Morrison ‘24 helped the Highlanders boys hockey to a 2-2 record this past weekend. Carter contributed with nine points in four games as a defenceman. Not only did Carter contribute offensively, but he was also a reliable defender playing a ton of minutes in all four games. Carter is a highly competitive person, and this characteristic is contagious throughout the team. His never-give-up attitude was evident this weekend and helped the Highlanders to two come-from-behind wins. Congrats, Carter!

Ewan Shaw ‘30 won not one, but two gold medals over the weekend. On display were his athleticism and the technical knowledge he has gained through hard work in the wrestling room with his partner, Caleb Decoste ‘30. He showed great bravery several times, when he fought his way out from under a pin, only to come back and pin all of his opponents. Despite being overjoyed at his results, he showed enough discipline to remain humble in his victories. If the supply he delivered is any indication, young Ewan will be even more of a force to be reckoned with in the future.

Lydia DesRoches ‘29 is a patient and down-to-earth leader. She listens well and works hard and helps her teammates on and off the court. Keep up the great work Lydia!

Claire Morton ‘24 secured two gold medals on Saturday and Sunday, finishing all her matches with pins after wrestling technical matches characterized by speed and an aggressive approach. This is especially impressive considering these were Claire's first matches since 2022.

Last year, Yuta Takahashi ‘24 was a rugby player who wrestled. Over the past weekend, at the 28th annual KES Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Saturday and the Wrestling Nova Scotia Opens on Sunday, he proved himself to be both a rugby player and a legitimate contender on the wrestling mat. He earned a fourth-place finish out of a field of ten on Saturday and a gold medal against older and bigger opponents on Sunday in the U21 division. His technical skills, particularly his double leg, are improving by the day.
