Highlanders Get Silver in Toronto Aeros Holiday Classic

The Highlanders girls hockey team brought home a silver medal from the Toronto Aeros Holiday Classic this past weekend. After a long Christmas break, the highlanders went 3-0-1 in round robin only allowing one goal in three games outside of a 5-5 tie. In a position to clinch a bye to the championship game the Highlanders produced two shutouts on Saturday in a 4-0 win over Markham-Stouffville and a 1-0 win over Team Illinois.

The Highlanders faced off against the very fast Toronto Aeros in the finals. After falling behind 1-0 in the first period, the Highlanders battled back to even it up early in the third. Controlling the play late in the game the Highlanders were able to do everything but beat the skilled Aeros netminder.

Regulation solved nothing, and we were off to three on three in overtime. After a quick Highlanders scoring chance off the opening faceoff, a bouncing puck off the half wall sprung the Aeros on a breakaway that they were able to capitalize on and end the game.

An amazing start to the second half from our group and we look to continue to work and improve moving forward in hopes of bringing a championship back to the hill.

Highlanders next action is January 19-21 when we travel to Winchendon School in Massachusetts for our Power Prep Hockey League Showcase.
