Athletes of the Week

Athletes of the Week (AOW) are selected based on athletic performance and sportsmanship. Positive sporting behaviour is valued at KES and integral to our athletic philosophy and School mission statement emphasizing gentleness, learning, dignity, and respect. These student athletes also reflect the seven principles of “true sport” which states: go for it, play fair, respect others, keep it fun, stay healthy, include everyone, and give back.

For the Week of January 1, 2024:

Natalia Shaw '27 had an impressive weekend of play in our recent Cole Harbour Cavaliers Basketball Tournament. She is first off the bench and always enters the game with tenacious energy. Her competitive spirit sets the tone and she works hard on both ends of the court. Natalia has excellent shot selection and form and she is a menace on defense. Our opponents never believe that she is only in Grade 9! Natalia's hustle and heart won her the Hustle of the Game award in our finals match-up against Citadel JV and ultimately helped us bring home the trophy. Great job, Natalia!

Rowan Francis '27 has worked hard in practice, he knows what he needs to concentrate on and shows that level of maturity. He is looking forward to the upcoming meet in Truro over this weekend knowing it gives him the opportunity to improve his times. By making finals he could improve his time twice in one event. We have great faith that he can. All the best Rowan!

Team Captain, Frances Aceron '24, had a strong weekend of play in the Cole Harbour Cavaliers Basketball Tournament. Frances was a key contributor both on the floor and on the sideline, with her strong offensive moves, impressive defensive stops, and unwavering team spirit and positivity. Frances was one of the KES leading scorers for the weekend, was named Player of the Game in the semi-final match against Yarmouth, and ultimately earned tournament MVP honours after leading the Highlanders to a championship win over Citadel JV. Congrats on a successful weekend, Fran!

Brodie Wood '24 had an outstanding weekend leading our very shorthanded Highlanders team. Brodie recorded two hat tricks in four games, finishing the weekend with seven goals and two assists in four games. With such a short line-up, he stepped up playing in all situations and different roles. He currently leads our team with 16 goals and 13 assists in just 19 games played. He continues to lead by example on the ice with his strong work ethic and off the ice being a vocal leader in the room. Congrats, Brodie!
