Athletes of the Week

Athletes of the Week (AOW) are selected based on athletic performance and sportsmanship. Positive sporting behaviour is valued at KES and integral to our athletic philosophy and School mission statement emphasizing gentleness, learning, dignity and respect. These student athletes also reflect the seven principles of “true sport” which states: go for it, play fair, respect others, keep it fun, stay healthy, include everyone, and give back.

For the Week of October 3-9

Senior Girl – Tyra Obadan ‘23
As the team captain on our Highlander senior girls volleyball team, Tyra's leadership and passion for the game of volleyball have made her a role model both on and off the court. Her calm and controlled demeanour, skill, power, and agility on the court have been the difference makers in the ACIS tournament. She led our team to victory against all three teams: Sacred Heart, Armbrae Academy and Brun. Well done, Tyra!!

Senior Boy – Louis Tong ’23
Louis is one of the captains of our Highlander senior boys soccer team. He always gives 100% and is a great role model for others. As one of our keepers, he showed great improvement over the last few weeks and is still keen to get better. His quiet leadership is an asset to our team. Well done, Louis!

Junior Boy – Tommy Upton ‘26
Tommy has been a key element of his team’s midfield. He defends and attacks tirelessly, preventing dangerous offensive rushes one moment and rushing forward to strike on the opposition’s net the next. Tommy is instrumental wherever he is on the pitch and given his energy and commitment to the game, it often seems that he is everywhere. His ability to anticipate play and cooperate with his teammates makes him a model midfield presence. Tommy’s determination, skill and love of the game are always evident when he plays and contributes not only to his success as a player, but also to the success of his team. Well done, Tommy.

Junior Girl – Ali MacLean ‘27
Even before team captains were announced, Ali stood out as a great leader for our Highlander junior girls soccer team. Scoring four goals in the last league game, she always remains level-headed and focused. Ali is not afraid to offer tips on positioning, positive affirmations, or skills advice to the other girls on the team. She is also a key to our Highlander senior girls soccer team and cross-country running programs for the fall term. She can also be found in the fitness facility working out in the early morning hours before breakfast under the guidance of our strength and conditioning coach, Shauna Forsyth. Keep up the hard work, Ali!

For the Week of October 10-16

Senior Girl – Lola Wamback’s ’25
Lola's positive attitude and love for the game has made her a dominant member of our Highlander girls volleyball team. She is always a consistent and hardworking student athlete who is self-motivated and determined to continually perfect her skills every time she steps foot on the court. She is always reliable, open to constructive criticism, smiles, gives 110% as well as continually asks questions to help develop her positional play.

Senior Boy – Colin Stephens ‘24
Colin had two great games as a wingback last week. He won over 90% of his challenges and helped move the ball forward to create promising plays. In both games, Colin had to take hard hits against his body, the last one resulting in an unfortunate injury. Colin always got back up after a hit and he continued with more determination. He never complains, and he always gives his best. He is probably one of the most improved players of the season. Well done, Colin.

Junior Boy – Jack Cosgrove ‘27
Jack has been a key component of our Highlander junior boys soccer team’s defensive line. His steadfast defending and ability to move the ball up the field with pace and poise makes him a key contributor to the team’s play-making. Jack is a focused and constructive player who works with the team to accomplish their goals. Jack’s appreciation for the game is always evident on the pitch, and during practice he shows a keen interest in developing new skills to bolster his performance. Well done Jack, you have had a great season thus far.

Junior Girl – Addison Smith ‘27
Addison quickly jumped into the net on day one and has been setting the team up for success ever since! With a great attitude, she is a fearless goalkeeper and a great addition to the Highlander junior girls soccer team! We are fortunate to have her backstop our team this season. Well done, Addi!
