Age Group Development Distance Meet Recap — Issue 10
A small herd of swimming Highlanders made their way to the Age Group Development Distance Meet, hosted by the Greenwood Dolphins Swim Club on Sunday, November 2. This early-season event provided an opportunity to assess how well each athlete’s aerobic system is developing. Race distances began at 200m and progressed through 400m and 800m, finishing with the longest pool event — the 1500m freestyle.
Personal bests are rare this early in the season for distance events. Tell that to Laura Napier-Whale ’30, who got things off to a strong start with a big personal best in the 400m freestyle, followed by a solid 200m backstroke. Fellow junior Ania Casado ’29 made her debut as a Highlander, earning third place in the 400m individual medley and posting a quick 400m freestyle. Emery Endres ’28 captured bronze in the 200m backstroke and narrowly missed the podium with a fourth-place finish in the 400m freestyle.
(Note: Boys and girls competed together at this meet, and results were combined across genders.)
Harvey Hadley ’27 won both his 400m freestyle and 200m backstroke handily. Junior Jude Levangie ’30 had a breakthrough meet, dropping nearly 40 seconds from his previous best in the 400m freestyle. Still catching his breath, he returned to the pool for the 200m backstroke and earned another personal best.
The Highlanders will now have a couple of weeks off from racing before their next meet at Centennial Pool in Halifax on November 22–23.
