Valentine’s Day Dance

Thursday, February 8 was the King’s-Edgehill School Valentine’s Day dance and those who attended had a blast! Complete with a photo booth, heart-themed decor suited for a red carpet, and two incredible DJs who provided the music for the night, it was a hit!

 

My favourite part of the night was watching everyone throughout the school get up and dance together on stage, singing the songs they enjoyed and laughing as they danced without a care. I don’t know which song was more popular, Country Girl or Lover. A unique aspect of this dance was that as people got enthusiastic about singing and dancing, the lights came up on them to add an extra element of excitement. 

 

One of the cool parts about dances here at King’s-Edgehill is that they are for all grades, all together. This provides a safe and welcoming environment for all students to come together and have a great time. After coming together as a school family to have a wonderful dinner provided by our incredible staff, it is always a lot of fun to celebrate. I appreciate how everyone is so welcoming to everyone who attends the dances, and many times throughout the dance I noticed a healthy mix of juniors and seniors, all dancing together. Junior School students who may have come into the dance feeling nervous and unsure are often taken in by Senior School students who encourage them to dance and be carefree, as it is a judgement-free zone. 

 

Organizing the dances is a big job and commitment, and I would like to extend a special thanks to Jacob Edgecombe ‘27 and Skye Hussey ‘26, who gave up their entire Winter Carnival Day to help make the dance a success by setting up and making sure everything ran smoothly. We had a blast setting up the decorations, but it is always stressful when we have to do last-minute troubleshooting. Thank you both for your continuous support and commitment. 

 

Another special thanks to our chaperones from this dance, who willingly gave up their personal time. They made sure that sign-ins through REACH ran smoothly, even when the rush of students showed up all at once!

 

Our next school dance is coming up in the spring, and I hope to see everyone there!
