Artists of the Week

The arts at King’s-Edgehill are an inclusive environment that embraces diversity. Not only in who we are but in our choices of what we pursue and how we express that choice. Imagination and creativity foster the capacity to develop ideas, solve problems, provide life skills, and open the door for opportunities. Intelligence and creativity are overlapping skills and through the arts, a person builds confidence, develops perspective, and finds their true nature.

Jess Etou ‘24 has been an inspiring contributor to the arts at KES. She has proven herself to be very motivated and hardworking. She is also a risk-taker, she is intelligent and has a very creative soul. Jess is dedicated to learning and enjoys challenging herself with enriching opportunities including voice lessons and performing on the stage in whatever capacity she can. Jess is enrolled in IB visual arts. She has taken an incredible direction in her studio work which reflects her passion for her culture. A collage titled My Sister and I is a powerful statement about her connection to her Congolese heritage and culture. This artwork is featured in today’s newsletter. Her collage will also be part of the IB Visual Arts Exhibition and exam in April.

Jess also serves as Marketing Executive Council Head and through this role has discovered the joy of photography. Jess’ growth in this regard has been tremendous, stepping up to capture campus events throughout the evenings and weekends. Additionally, Jess has brought forth many creative ideas with regards to video production for the KES social media channels, including student Q&As on move-in day, at the KES coffee house, and other upcoming projects. Jess’ creative eye paired with her kind nature allow her to capture genuine moments that help tell the KES story. Great job and well deserved, Jess!
