I’m Not a Quitter!

The 42^nd Anniversary Terry Fox Run is less than 10 days away. It is an exciting year for the event as we will, once again, be able to gather in person, something we haven’t been able to do since 2019! The response on campus has been positive and our students are taking the lead spreading the word to family and our greater Windsor community.

Hats off to Frances Aceron ‘24, Jessica Etou ’24, Natha Etou ‘27, Julia Field ‘23, Arianna MacDonald ‘24, and Sidney Schwartz ’23 who shared the Terry Fox story and received donations for cancer research outside the Windsor Superstore on Thursday, September 8. They encouraged community members to sign Terry’s dedication board and to join us on campus on September 18. They raised over $660 and inspired others by their actions and commitment to the Marathon of Hope. I was equally impressed by the number of students who have shown initiative by registering and beginning personal fundraising on our Windsor Terry Fox Run page. Led by Ali ‘27 and Joe MacLean’s ‘23 family, and including students from Grades 6 to 12, the commitment has been very encouraging with over $9000 already recorded. This kind of leadership is amazing. Next Wednesday, September 14, we will show our collective Highlander spirit by “dressing down” in our Terry Fox T-shirts as the event draws near.

 

In 1980, Terry Fox said, “nobody is ever going to call me a quitter.” and, fittingly, the theme for this year’s Terry Fox Run is “I’m not a quitter!” It is a compulsory event for all students and faculty. Family members, neighbours, friends and favorite pets are welcome as we will walk, run, or cycle the 5-kilometre route together! Don’t forget the quad barbecue with live student entertainment that will follow. Registration begins at 10:00 am with the official start at 11:00 am. If you are in the Windsor area on Saturday, September 10, drop by the Atlantic Superstore where our students will be bagging groceries and sharing their enthusiasm for the Windsor Terry Fox Run.
