Athletes of the Week

Athletes of the Week (AOW) are selected based on athletic performance and sportsmanship. Positive sporting behaviour is valued at KES and integral to our athletic philosophy and School mission statement emphasizing gentleness and learning and dignity and respect. These student athletes also reflect the seven principles of “true sport”.

For the Week of June 5

Senior Girl: Bella Turner-Galaise ‘22 has been very busy this term. After completing her exams, as a full IB diploma student, and practicing in our wrestling room with her sister Beatrice ‘24 two evenings per week, she has most recently competed in the Junior National Freestyle Wrestling Championships in Edmonton, Alberta, for athletes up to 20 years of age. Bella won a bronze at the nationals which qualified her to compete for the national junior team at the Pan Am trials. Fortunately, Bella placed second in the trials and second overall and will be attending the Pan Am Games in the fall and will be wearing a Team Canada singlet. Prior to that, Bella will compete at an international senior clinic and tournament in Italy as well as the Canada Summer Games in August. Congratulations and best of luck to Bella!

Senior Boy: Joe MacLean ‘23 – In a provincial final that required incredibly determined defense to stop a very capable Northumberland offense, Joe MacLean distinguished himself with some of the toughest playing the senior boys rugby programme has ever had. He played through considerable fatigue and discomfort, in addition to showing excellent leadership in his coordination of the team at the fly-half position. Congratulations to Joe and to the entire senior boys rugby team on a fantastic provincial win!
