And Music Filled the Air Once More

Three years have now passed since we had the last Spring Fling Concert, as COVID-19 set musicians on the sidelines. With restrictions recently relaxed, I am delighted to reflect upon the 15 different performances given last Thursday night. Our jazz band kicked off the evening with soulful and spirited songs by Amy Winehouse and Roberta Flack, while the Juniors waited in the wings. When our Grade 6 students hit the stage next, it was obvious that they were well prepped and eager to put on a show; that, they did! Their rendition of the popular Grease song, You're the One That I Want, and Avril Lavigne's Complicated, brought down the house with cheers and applause, and solidified the festive mood. With all music classes and soloists engaged, the next acts were equally well rehearsed and entertaining. Mr. Kevin Simonar, Ms. Stephanie Fillman and I could not be prouder of each performance given during the two-hour show in front of the nearly packed audience.

I especially want to wish the best of luck to pending graduates, Hannah Pace ‘22, Jason Hu ‘22, Gleb Proshkyn ‘22, Dakota Bagshaw ‘22, and Mitchell Larkin ‘22, whose contribution to our School music programme has been valued and impressive. Mitchell and Dakota have elected to study music at university next fall. That makes my smile even wider; let the music play on!
