Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey – A Great Success

Congratulations to our Grade 9 Duke of Edinburgh leadership class on the successful completion of their adventurous journey, the final requirement for the bronze award. On Wednesday, May 18 and Thursday, May 19, 38 of our Grade 9 students and eight veteran chaperones completed two challenging hikes and an overnight camping experience. Under beautiful sunny skies and perfect hiking temperatures, the group traversed the trails of Cape Blomidon on the shores of the Minas Basin, climbing 600 feet from the lower parking lot to the amazing look-off views. Students returned to campus where they prepared their tents and campsite for the night. There were four sites spread around our 66 acres of campus. Our rugby players enjoyed sleeping in the “try zone” on Herman Field. Evening s’mores over the open fire pit were enjoyed by all and Major Hynes made sure there were plenty of Meals Ready to Eat (MREs) for our hungry hikers. An early rise and breakfast at the camps marked the beginning of the second day. Students thoroughly enjoyed stage two of the hike which was a low tide beach walk from Delhaven to Kingsport. The class explored the coastline on the second sunny morning and took advantage of low tide and high spirits.

It was fun to share time with this amazing group of students and staff. Every one of our students can feel proud of their efforts and the success of the expedition.
