Church Parade! At last!

It happened after a hiatus of several years. Last Friday, on a glorious May afternoon, the School as a Cadet Corps marched through the town of Windsor and into Christ Church. It was a strong and visible reminder of the School’s connection to the Town of Windsor, to the church, and to the military; all important aspects of the history and life of King’s-Edgehill. Will Ahern ‘22, Head Boy, and Gabby Strickey, Head Girl, read the Scripture lessons from the Song of Songs and John 10 respectively. The readers for the Reflection, “It happened one Friday Afternoon”, were Will Larder ‘26, Vinnie Armstrong ‘25, Polet Sanchez ‘23, Lucas Martin ‘24, Sean Hurley ‘23, Okechinyere (Adaoma) Ukaegbu ‘23, and Jessica Etou Nkaa ‘24. Levy Spence ’23 led the intercessory prayers.

There was a battalion of servers led by Gleb Proshkyn ‘22 carrying the Christ Church Cross along with acolytes Zhi (Angel) Li '22 and Carter Short ‘22, followed by Head Chapel Prefect, Stanislav Matkovskyi ‘22, bearing the Icon of the Resurrection. Then came the Readers. Graydon Spence ‘24 carried the Chapel Cross along with acolytes Lennon Rutledge ‘23 and Evey Kennedy ‘23, followed by the Grade 6 class under Lucy Goddard’s ‘23 direction. Jacob Fines-Belcham ’25 carried the Wooden Cross, leading into the Sanctuary Liu (Sofia) Ning '25, the Headmaster, Mr. Joe Seagram, Ryan MacDougall ‘27, and the Chaplain. Mitchell Larkin ‘22, Band Sergeant Major, and an accomplished oboist and English horn player, performed a lovely musical meditation, an arrangement for oboe of a J.S. Bach aria from the Easter Oratorio, “Saget mir, saget mir, geschwinde.” The students were resplendent in their reds and highland kit and conducted themselves with great respect and dignity.

It was an afternoon miracle that complements the morning miracle of Chapel. Such things can only happen because of the commitment of students and faculty. My thanks to all.
