For the Week of May 8

Junior Boy – Sachaa Rudrum-Bhimji ‘25 had a great ultimate frisbee tournament last week. The team relied on his excellent handling making skills to propel them to the semifinals. Sachaa has the ability to beat his defender with quick pivots and fakes, and then throw full field passes that sail, seemingly unerringly, to his sprinting teammates. He has a great sense of the game and takes it upon himself to improve his throwing and positioning skills at every opportunity. Sachaa has supported his team’s development and has shared his passion for the game, skills, and sense of humor with his teammates and opponents alike; exemplifying the spirit of fun, comradery and healthy competition that makes ultimate so great. Well done, Sachaa!

Junior Girl – Lola Wamback ‘25 has emerged as a strong player on the senior girls rugby team. She boarded the bus at 7:00 am the day after the Cadet Inspection and made a strong contribution to the team’s excellence at a tournament in Antigonish. She could be seen yesterday sporting the tiara as player of the game. She is not afraid to engage older players on the pitch. Bravo, Lola!

Senior Girl – Sophie Thimot ‘24 was new to the sport of rugby this year and quickly found her stride in the back field. She is a quick, aggressive runner and a committed tackler. In our most recent game against Park View, Sophie shifted into fullback for the first time and proved herself a natural at the position, making several important catches, defensive tackles, and runs up the pitch. We are excited to see her continue to grow in the sport the rest of the season. Excellent work, Sophie!

Senior Boy – Cole Desrosiers’ ’23 combined skill, presence of mind, and aggressive play to win 'hammer of the match' over Avon View during a mud bowl of a game last week. His handling skills were especially impressive, considering the conditions. His tackling was superb as usual, and he helped us win possession by stealing the ball from the oppositions' hands several times. We are looking forward to seeing him lead the way when AV comes to KES on Thursday (editorial note: the boys won the game and are regional winners!). Excellent work, Cole!

For the Week of May 15

Junior Boy – Giacomo Pogliani ‘27: After starting his season with the senior boys rugby roster, Giacomo brought his experience and skill to the junior pitch. He has been a leader in demonstrating proper tackling technique in practice and he had a fantastic series of flag games in last week’s jamboree. Giacomo knows the flow of the game of rugby sevens, and he supports his team by initiating plays, moving the ball well, and being in the right place at the right time for contested rucks and key tackles. Awesome job, Giacomo!

Junior Girl – Ali MacLean ‘27 has been leading the way on the junior rugby pitch this spring. She has a wealth of rugby skill and experience that she shares with the group of over 20 juniors, and her ability and knowledge of the game helps to bring up the level of the entire team. Aly scored several tries in our recent flag tournament and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and a true love of the game. She was even seen helping the opposition learn how to score a try by properly touching the ball down in their end zone! Great work, Aly!

Senior Girl – Jill Griffith ‘22 had a spectacular week of rugby this past week! In our final league game of the season against our cross-town rivals from Avon View, Jill distributed the ball well, ran with excellent pace, and used kicks to effectively pin our opponents in tough field position. Later in the week, we welcomed one of the top teams from Halifax: the Citadel Phoenix to campus for an exhibition game. Citadel, who is known for winning games in lopsided fashion simply had no answer for Jill who was able to find, create, and exploit even the smallest of gaps in their defense enroute to a convincing win. On the weekend, the girls travelled to StFX for a tournament that saw us face off against Bluefield High from PEI and Lockview High from Halifax. In these games, it was Jill’s smothering pressure and excellent tackles that were on display. Her speed off the line stifled many of our opponents’ attacks and put us in a position to be successful. Keep up the excellent work, Jill!

Senior Boy – Nate Montgomery ‘23 won William's guardianship and his First XV hoodie, after a commanding performance by the senior boys rugby team during their contest against cross-town rivals Avon View earlier in the week. He contributed 25 of the boys' 75 points with blistering speed, excellent positional awareness, and aggressive line running. Now that the boys have secured first place in the league, we are sure Nate will make a very positive impact on the regional final on Thursday (editorial note: they won regionals!). Great work, Nate!
