Robotics on the World Stage

As some of you may recall from a previous newsletter article in early March of this year, the King’s-Edgehill School Robotics Team had three teams rank in the top five teams (out of 27 teams) at Acadia University’s regional Robofest tournament. As a result, these teams qualified for the Robofest Online World Championship based out of Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan, USA. This event, which took place this past Friday, included teams from all over the world, including such countries as South Africa, Nigeria, the United Arab Emirates, Taiwan, China, and the United States of America. The Grade 9 team of Alex Graham ’25 and Kai Choo ‘25 had an outstanding first run. I look forward to seeing more high-level achievements from these intelligent young men in the coming years. The team of Harrison Kim ’23 and Thomas Fan ‘22 completely rebuilt their original robot and rewrote the programme to go with it. Such effort and dedication were most admirable to observe in the days approaching the competition. Finally, the team of William Feng ‘24, Simon Shi ‘23, and Allen Dai ‘23 did a great job of tweaking their original programme to meet the demands of the new challenge. I was most impressed by their focus to improve.

Overall, it was an excellent event, and I am proud of how well the students performed among the best robots on the world stage.
