International Independent Schools Public Speaking Competition

This is a landmark year for King’s-Edgehill School as we cohost the International Independent Schools Public Speaking Competition (IISPSC). This is an international league of schools from across the globe who gather each year to compete in events such as parliamentary debating, impromptu speaking, dramatic interpretations, and others, to determine the world’s top public speakers. Each school sends their top three students, and we are proud of Danica Scully, Thane Morgan, Will Larder and Vincent Armstrong who will be representing King’s-Edgehill at this years event.

Danica Scully '24
Danica Scully has spent the last five years on podiums within the world of Nova Scotia debate. She has won five Nova Scotia provincial titles over the last three years as an individual speaker, as well as four times as the top team in provincial debate. These accolades make Danica one of the most decorated junior level debaters. This is Danica’s first year within the senior level of debate, and she is excited and prepared for the challenge of IISPSC spending last year as an understudy for the King’s-Edgehill team in preparation for 2022.

Thane Morgan '22
Thane Morgan is the King’s-Edgehill Debate captain with extensive experience in tournaments across the country. He has been a finalist in high level tournaments such as Sodalies, Nova Scotia Provincials and the OSDU Debating Championship as well as competing for Nova Scotia in the National tournament held in Montreal in 2019. Thane has participated in two previous IISPSC events hosted in Boston and Vancouver and is excited to now take part in his graduation year.

William Larder '26
Will Larder has been a part of the King’s-Edgehill Debate programme for the last three years competing around the province in both in-person and virtual tournaments. In the 2020-2021 school year he truly came into his own consistently scoring at the top of the tournament tabs. He is excited for this opportunity to take part in the IISPSC event as a Grade 8 student. This tournament will be an incredible learning opportunity as he competes with the world’s best.

Vincent Armstrong '25 (understudy)
Vincent Armstrong and Will Larder have taken the debate world by storm. They are a strong duo who have impressed judges with their poise and argument construction. Vincent has been a part of the debate programme for the last three years and routinely finishes tournaments at the top of the tab for both team and individual speaking scores. Vincent is an understudy for this year’s event in preparation for his participation in IISPSC 2022 held in Hartford, Connecticut this fall.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the event will be held in a virtual platform March 4-6, and there are multiple opportunities to take part as a judge, moderator or volunteer. Further details about how you can be a part of this event will be released in a pushpage early next week. We would love to see our community involved.
