Novice Competitive Swimmers Excel!

Sunday, November 7 was the first away meet for seven of our young competitive swimmers who travelled to Acadia to attend the Nova Tech meet hosted by Wolfville Tritons club. This was the first meet to be held for this level of swimmer since February 2020, so this was a new experience for most of them. This series of events is set in three categories and requires set times to be achieved in order to move through the categories. The set times are challenges for all in this programme and it is exciting when the times are reached.

Of the seven King’s-Edgehill swimmers at Acadia, only one was male - William Day ‘25. William, who has only been with us for a couple of months, bounced in and out of the Nova Tech programme in this one meet, achieving the goal times with much room to spare and gaining three first place and one third place finishes for his four swims! Quite an achievement for a new swimmer!

Lillian Blois ’27 also showed excellent form with her 200-metre freestyle taking first place and executing turns in fine form. This is something she has been struggling with but had it down nicely on Sunday. Lillian achieved one gold and two silver place finishes.

Renata Nieto ‘26 surprised the coaches with her 50-metre butterfly, and she took gold in that race and qualified for level two in her 100-metre individual medley. Renata managed a complete set of ‘medals’ taking gold, silver and bronze positions in her events.

Hannah Stilwell ‘23 overcame her nerves to produce fine form and show that she was ready to move to greater things by qualifying from the Nova Tech programme to the more advanced age (AG) group. Hannah took gold and bronze positions in her events and left the building smiling!

Sarah Hatfield ‘22 also showed her skill by qualifying for the AG programme and managing a silver and a bronze position in her swims.

Maran Hawley ‘26, and Mollybeth Dickinson ‘26 both felt the occasion stressing them, but they managed to let their adrenaline show the way, and they performed very well and impressed the coaches. Both girls struggle with the butterfly event, but at this meet they showed that they can do this most difficult stroke.

From this meet William, Lillian, Sarah and Hannah move on to the more challenging AG programme with their next meet scheduled for November 20-21 at Acadia. Renata, Maran and Mollybeth will go to level two of the Nova Tech programme to continue their journey. Good luck to all of them and splendid swims too!
