For the Week of October 4 – 10

Junior Boy - Westin Endres ‘26 was one of our fabulous five swimmers to take part in the recent Dalhousie Sprint Meet and the only one of them to record a personal best time in each of his five events. Already one of the top U14 swimmers in Nova Scotia and a clear Canada Games candidate, Endres improved all of his 50-metre events (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle) and in his 200-metre individual medley. Congratulations, Westin. A multisport athlete, Westin is also looking forward to the start of the varsity ski season as he mixes two forms of water sports. Excellent work Westin!

Junior Girl - Rowan Lloyd ‘26 is in her first year at KES, and after only a few short weeks with the junior girls soccer team, she is already making her presence known on the pitch. She brings her “A game” in skill, effort and spirit to training sessions and scrimmages. Rowan’s aggressive offensive play and her calm confidence on the pitch resulted in her scoring the team’s only goal against West Hants in the first league game of the season. Rowan’s knowledge of the game and her strong work ethic will be counted on to lead the team through this season. Great effort Rowan!

For the Week of October 11 – 17

Junior Boy - Vincent Armstrong played a crucial role on the D1 senior soccer team in the race for the regional banner. Outsiders would have no clue that he is the youngest player on the team as he consistently displays incredible maturity and game intelligence on the field. His smart decision making and passing accuracy are only a couple of his strong suits. Vinnie was dominating on the left wing and helped to produce great chances. He has proven several times that he is a threat to be reckoned with, be it through beautiful goals or assists. Vinnie had a significant impact to help win the regional banner this season. He will have a bright future in soccer. Keep up the hard work Vinnie.

Junior Girl - Maggie Wellard ’28 has been playing striker for the junior girls soccer roster this fall, and she has proven that she can compete with players twice her size who are several years older. She treats her coaches, teammates and opponents with respect, and is a perfect balance of calm and competitiveness on the pitch! Her level-headed plays and ball skills have resulted in her winning battles and providing offensive opportunities for her team. Maggie’s soccer smarts, enthusiasm and love of the game will be relied on as we look to finish strong this season!

Senior Girls - Gabby Strickey ’22 is a veteran on the volleyball court. This self-motivated, determined and hard-working athlete is continually grasping to perfect her skills every time she steps foot on the court. She is always reliable, open to constructive criticism, smiles, gives 110% and continually asks questions to develop her positional play. I look forward to watching our team and Gabby grow throughout our season. Keep up the great work Gabby.

Senior Boy - Wyatt Carling ’22 - This past Sunday was an historic day of firsts for our KES swimmers. Not only was it the first swim meet in Nova Scotia since March of 2020, but it was also the first meet of the King's-Edgehill School Swim Club. Competing against more than 80 swimmers in each event with an age range from teens to early twenties, Wyatt collected a first in his 50-metre butterfly, a first in this 50-metre backstroke, a first in his 50-metre freestyle, and a second in his 50-metre breaststroke. Congratulations, Wyatt. A multisport athlete, Wyatt is also looking forward to the start of his first wrestling season while still swimming.

For the Week of October 18 – 24

Junior Boy - Jack Sangster ‘25 is the youngest player on the prep hockey team, and he has been the most consistent throughout this season thus far. Jack is currently tied in the lead for goals, and he has done it through hard work, and while wearing a smile at all times! Well done Jack!

Junior Girl - Sofia Loperena ‘26 is a strong contributor to the girls soccer roster. She holds down the centre mid position on the junior roster and also practices and plays with the senior JV team. Sofia brings aggressive play to all games and keeps the intensity high on the pitch. She knows how to put on the pressure, and her versatile dribbling skills allow her to maintain possession and smoothly move the ball past opponents. Sofia has already made her mark at KES as a dedicated and talented soccer player, and she will be counted on for her level-headed play as we fight for a strong finish this season. Well done Sofia!

Senior Girls - Eva Palov ’24 played an excellent game for the Highlanders D1 soccer team as her relentless running, great defensive coverage and attacking runs helped KES to a 3-0 win against Avon View in the western region semi-final game. This past Saturday, Eva scored a hat-trick, her first at KES, to help her team beat Horton High School 7-0 and win the western region banner. Great stuff Eva!

Senior Boy - Emiliano Bonilla’22, captain of our soccer team was a complete menace to our opponents. Bonilla led the team to two crucial victories in the race for the western regional banner. He initiated a video analysis session in preparation for our semi-final against Yarmouth. He led our Highlanders on the field with sheer determination and by scoring two beautiful goals to send Yarmouth home with a dominant 5-0 KES victory. On top of that he was covering every centimetre of the right flank in the regional final against AV, scoring a stunning bicycle-kick goal which secured a 1-0 victory over our cross-town rival. The grounds of Avon View erupted with the cheers from the many KES supporters who followed the intense and close match. His hard work over the last three years paid off and his contributions to the team were one of the reasons that brought us the regional banner. Well done, Boni!
