Dal Sprint Meet 2021 Recap

Carling again…Wyatt Carling of KES… setting the pace in another event for all to follow… this KES team is new, but I sure hope we get to see more of them -- Livestream commentator from the Dal Sprint Meet

What a morning! Our first meet as KES Swimming! We made a big impression. We took five swimmers to the Dalhousie swimming pool October 24 for the first swim meet held in Nova Scotia since March of 2020. More than 250 of the fastest swimmers in our province, ranging in age from 12 to 21 took part.

With 80-90 swimmers in each of his events, Wyatt Carling ‘22 was the mysterious swimmer of the meet collecting gold medals like a kid taking candy on Halloween. Who is that? Where is he from? I heard those statements multiple times on deck. In five events, Carling took home three golds, a silver and just finished off the podium in fourth in his last and most tiring event. Stanislav Matkovskyi ‘22 had a fantastic series of sprints as he earned personal bests in four of his five events. Matkovskyi was particularly punctual with the finish as he dipped under the 40 second barrier in his 50-meter breaststroke in 39.84.

Competing against the same 20+ year old swimmers as Wyatt were our junior boys and leading the way with 100% personal best times was Westin Endres ‘26. Endres’ best performance came in his 50-meter backstroke as he improved by nearly 10% (a massive amount). Rowan Francis ‘27 also had a superb day as he improved in four of his five events, and especially so in his 50-meter freestyle as he dropped his time by more than three seconds in a 33-second event.

I know that other KES sport teams have already had their “first competition since March 2020”, but this was ours, and it couldn’t have gone much better.
