Boys JV Soccer Battle

Here’s a recap of our senior boys junior varsity soccer regional semifinal game at Park View this past Tuesday.

Park View scored twice with a long distance shot and a penalty kick at the beginning of the game. We were down by 2-0 in the first ten minutes. However, just after four minutes, we scored our first goal of the game. Cameron Stephens ‘22 had a breakthrough. He dribbled the ball all the way to the far side of the net and crossed it to the middle. Mateo Brenta ‘23 finished the job by scoring with a nice touch.

In the 18th minute, Luis Medina Ongay ‘22 tied the game up with an amazing free kick outside of the box. We went into the second half with a score of 2-2. In the 50th minute, our defensive line made a critical mistake and Park View scored again. We spent the rest of the game coming back. We had a lot of good chances; however, we were unable to secure them. Parkview scored again in the 89th minute. Final score was 4-2 for Park View.

Our boys gave it their all, and I am proud of them for fighting every single minute. It was a drastic improvement for them compared to our last game against Park View when we lost 5-1 at home. After our loss to Park View last Friday, our team has been practicing every single day (even on the weekends) for regionals. Our team captains Luis Medina Ongay and Cameron Stephens organized a Saturday night lights practice on our Tanna Turf, and 20 players showed up. Lukas Schmidt ‘22 and Ben Bednara ’22 from the D1 team also organized a defense and goalie training session for our team on Sunday afternoon. Shout out to these amazing gentlemen. I would also like to thank Mr. Derek Bouwman who travelled with the team this past Tuesday. His experience and intelligence really helped to boost the team morale.
