Highlanders Girls Prep Soccer Visit New Brunswick

On Monday, October 4 and Tuesday, October 5, our KES Highlanders girls prep soccer team travelled to New Brunswick’s capital to visit the campuses of the University of New Brunswick (UNB) and Saint Thomas University (STU). On Monday, the team arrived in Fredericton in the early afternoon and met with UNB varsity women’s coach Jonathan Crossland who provided a 90-minute training session for our girls on the stadium field. Coach Crossland was impressed by the strong work ethic and high level of aggressiveness demonstrated by our girls in his coaching session. After the session, he met with and addressed the team in their spacious team room where he outlined a number of important details about UNB and his programme specifically. Additionally, a few of our seniors had the privilege of an individual meeting with Coach Crossland to gain further insight into the women’s programme.

On Tuesday, the Highlanders were up and at it early as they had a busy day awaiting them. First on the agenda was a campus tour of STU and meetings with their great admissions tour guides. STU provides a wonderful university experience for potential KES students as they focus on small class sizes, low student to professor ratios, and strong personal relationships where students are seen as faces and names rather than numbers. After lunch, we ventured a short distance to the campus of UNB to tour Canada’s oldest university. The admissions team and tour guides provided a high-energy and very informative tour of UNB which showed very nicely on a beautifully sunny early fall afternoon. At 5:00pm, our Highlanders had the privilege of scrimmaging with the STU Tommies women’s varsity soccer team, with many highlight performances from our players. Like Jonathan Crossland, Head Coach Michelle DeCourcey was an excellent host, providing their team room for us to change in, and provided complimentary words regarding the performance of our team members. All-in-all it was an excellent trip that achieved the goals of showcasing our players to university coaches and exposing them to the standards and expectations of university varsity soccer programmes.
