Cadet Marshmallow Roast

On Wednesday afternoon (best day of the week!), the 254 gathered on our Tanna Turf. The corps is starting to pick up the pace now, as most of our cadets have been fitted for their field training uniforms, and they are starting to come together as a unit. Currently, the 254 is an outdoor corps. We spend very little time in the classroom as the fresh air does us all a world of good. After corps drill was complete, we carried on with the outdoor aspects of cadets. We lit fires, serviced stoves and lanterns and tied plenty of knots in ropes. Of course, our students never miss an opportunity to make the day fun. As soon as Sergeant Lucas Martin ‘24 demonstrated the proper technique of lighting the two burner Coleman stove, the young cadets all agreed that it was time to cook something to eat. Being a very strict commanding officer, I immediately went to my office and read the entire lesson plan. Nothing in there stated, “cook something to eat.” I quickly exited the building to check on the class. Alas, I was too late. By the time I got there the sticks were all cut, and the marshmallows were roasting on the fire. They may not have perfected the techniques, but they all enjoyed the roast. What a great day to be a cadet in the 254.
