Athletes of the Week

Athletes of the Week (AOW) are selected based on athletic performance and sportsmanship. Positive sporting behaviour is valued at KES and integral to our athletic philosophy and School mission statement emphasizing "gentleness and learning, dignity and respect".

For the Week up to September 26
Junior Boy - Fletcher Wellard ’28 had a great first game of the season. He scored two goals, using his speed and quick touches to beat the opposition to the net. Fletcher showed great patience and poise, playing his striking position expertly and even pausing to let a defender slide passed him before kicking the ball into the back of the net. Well done, Fletcher.

Junior Girl - Ali MacLean ‘27 has demonstrated athleticism and strong leadership from the start of the junior girls soccer season. In practices she knows the perfect balance between having fun and working hard, and this role modeling has set the tone for other players on the team. Keen to try something new and contribute to the team’s success, Ali volunteered to play keeper and spent time outside of practice learning this position. Confident and agile in the goal, she has made many aggressive saves and strong kicks up the field. Also playing midfield, her endurance and ability to make wise decisions under pressure has been a welcome strength offensively. Excellent work, Ali!

Senior Girl - Jill Griffith ’22 scored five goals in four games to lead the KES Highlanders to a first-place finish at the 23rd annual KES Invitational Soccer Tournament. She then contributed one goal and two assists in our most recent league win over Park View Educational Centre. Jill is our team co-captain, and she plays both in midfield and as a centre forward for the Highlanders. Well deserved recognition, Jill!

Senior Boy - Quinn Emery ‘22 could probably run our difficult racecourse blindfolded because he has run it so many times. At our first race of the season, however, Quinn sent everyone home devastated in the personal best performance category. An improvement of one minute on the most challenging course in the league would be impressive, but Quinn surpassed that by removing three minutes and thirty seconds from his best time. Congratulations, Quinn!

For the Week of September 27 – October 3
Junior Boy - Marcelo Sarquis Madrazo ‘26 had an excellent first game of the season. He is a great offensive player who knows how to use passing and positioning to create space and opportunities. Marcelo is a team player who selflessly distributes the ball and does not shy away from contact. He scored two well-deserved goals during the game, capitalizing on quick counterattacks, while showing an intuitive and strategic sense of play. Well done, Marcelo.

Junior Girl - Natalia Shaw ‘27 easily walked into the centre mid position, and competes with intensity for each minute of play, never giving up and demonstrating athleticism, endurance, and soccer smarts. In the junior girls soccer league games thus far, Natalia stepped up her intensity and was counted on for providing offensive opportunities and also battling for the ball defensively. On September 28, Natalia competed back-to-back in both the cross country run event (placing second overall) and the second half of a soccer game versus West Hants Middle School. Her contributions to and love of athletics are admirable!

Senior Girls - Paula Tschritter ‘23 is a new-to-KES runner and she proved that she has speed in her legs as she raced to a bronze medal at our recent home opening cross country meet. Being new to cross country, it’s always a learning curve as one tries to figure out how fast to run without burning up before the finish line. After the race, Paula admitted that she probably had more jet fuel in the tank, and her next race will be even faster. Well done, Paula!

Senior Boy - Eric Fields ‘22 pitched an absolute gem for our prep boys baseball team against the Ottawa Nepean Canadians pitching a complete game two hitter and striking out sixteen. On top of his pitching performance, Eric continues to be an impact player at the plate and on the base paths creating chaos for the opposing team. Keep up the great work, Eric!
