Highlander Soccer Team is Kicking it!

The Highlanders girls’ prep soccer team co-hosted the 23rd annual KES Invitational Soccer Tournament last weekend on the newly named Tanna (formerly Jakeman) turf field, and finally, after what seemed like an eternity, players, coaches, officials, and fans welcomed the opportunity to return to what used to be…games with spectators! It was a fun weekend, full of excitement on the field of play and great spirit by those who came to cheer their teams.

On the field, our girls enjoyed a successful weekend and demonstrated a consistently solid effort over our four games. While we played well in each match, our objective over the next couple of weeks is, like that of many teams, to focus on and improve finishing our goal scoring chances. Following is a breakdown of each Highlanders match.

Game 1 – KES 5 vs Bayview 0 (formerly Sir John A)
Scorers: Reegan Wagg (2), Neila MacDonald, Fiona MacDonald and Jill Griffith
Shutout: shared by Danica Scully and Maya Faucher

Game 2 – KES 3 vs Horton High 1
Scorers: Jill Griffith (2), Reegan Wagg
Goalkeeper: Lennon Rutledge

Game 3 – KES 3 vs Avon View 0
Scorers: Yulan Farias (2), Jill Griffith
Shutout: Danica Scully

Game 4 – KES 1 vs Parkview 0
Scorer: Jill Griffith
Shutout: Maya Faucher

Congratulations to our girls for displaying great sportsmanship and spirit, as well as being a cohesive unit looking to improve from game-to-game.
