Grade 8 and 9 Acrylic Paintings

For the past month, both my Grade 8 and 9 Art classes have been introduced to the art of painting. For the students in Grade 8, this is usually their first time painting on stretched canvas and using acrylic paint. In this class, the focus is on learning the techniques and how to use the materials.

In the Grade 9 class, most students have used these materials before and are now ready to focus on the subject that they chose with designing a “close up” composition. They are learning how to place the subject on the canvas. The technique that both classes are taught is a traditional method of learning how to paint. First, sketch your subject on the canvas with a pencil, then outline the subject with a neutral colour, usually with the colour blue. The next step is starting the painting process with the background or the sky.

Both classes did an exceptional job. The paintings are now on display in our Stanfield Dining Hall/McLellan Annex.

Enjoy.
