Girls Hockey - First Game is a Winner!

This Tuesday, our Girls’ Prep Hockey Team travelled to Sydney for their first game of the season where they defeated the Cape Breton Lynx Major Midget Team by a 2-1 score.  Due to the pandemic, this was the first game that any of our girls have played in eight months which in the hockey world is an eternity!

Our girls have been working hard off the ice and on the ice since June 16th when they first gathered for a ‘fitness and fun’ session on campus.  After 112 days of training, you can imagine how excited they were on the bus ride through beautiful Cape Breton enroute to the game.

It was the third game of the year for Cape Breton who had less rust on their game play as they jumped out to a 1-0 first period lead.  Abby McCarthy tied the game in the second period finishing a play that started with some great work by Kaylee Hickey.  In the third period, Bella Galaise’s hard work paid off when she scored the winning goal as a result of some great work in the offence zone by Bella, Abby Russell and Hayden LillyRachel Dean stopped 16 of the 17 shots she faced to earn the victory.

On the drive back to campus, we had the pleasure of stopping at The Appleseed Modern Diner in New Glasgow for a team meal.  The Appleseed is owned by KES Old Boy (Class of 1999) and former Head Boy, David Cohen, who joined the girls for their lunch.  The food and service were amazing, and I highly recommend it to anybody in the New Glasgow area.

A special congratulations to Coach Breanna Hillier on her first win as a KES Coach!
