Palmer, Ian Hart

Passed away July 28, 2020
Age 81, Windsor/Margaree Centre, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 in Hants Community Hospital surrounded by his immediate family. Born on June 17, 1939, he was the only child of the late Albert and Jessie (Hart) Palmer, and stepson of the late Ralph S. Parsons. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Marion (Smith) Palmer; daughters, Kimberly (Byron) Fraser, Margaree Valley; Karen (John) Currie, Vancouver, B.C.; Sharon (David) Purdy, Tantallon; and Wendy (Bill) Harvie, New Minas; grandchildren, Andrew, Lydia, Simon, Stash, Lucas, Palmer, David, Stephen, Elizabeth, Claire and Lara. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Margaret Kelly, Welland, Ont.; and Janet (Alan) Fleury, Salmon River; and several nieces, nephews and numerous cousins. Ian received his early education in Margaree Centre and then Windsor where he attended Kings College School. He studied at Acadia University, then Dalhousie University where he graduated with his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1967. He practiced dentistry in Windsor for eight years and Inverness, Cape Breton until his retirement. He was a true outdoorsman and he loved the sport of salmon fly fishing on the Margaree River and the Humber River, N.L. One of his highlights included moose hunting in the Cape Breton Highlands and Newfoundland. He was a member of the former Windsor Gyros Club and a member of the new Windsor Social Club. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. The family wishes to thank the VON for their services over the last few years, to Amber Phillips, Palliative Care and the nursing staff of Hants Community Hospital Unit 200. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where a private funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel, Rev. Karen Lynch officiating. A private family burial will be held in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor.
