Making a Difference

The 40th Anniversary Terry Fox Run is less than 10 days away.  As we know, this year is challenging us to do things differently.  While members of our King’s-Edgehill boarding bubble community will take part in an on-campus event on September 20th, our large day population will take part in a virtual event.  It will be a “One Day. Your Way.” approach with day students and their families choosing their own route and location to safely walk, run, bike, hike, skate or wheel.  Without the usual social buzz of a busy registration desk, fundraising will go virtual as well.  Boarding students are finding creative ways to raise money for cancer research on campus, while day students are registering independently with their families with the option of fundraising on their own.  William Ahern, a full IB Diploma student and Grade 11 Steward from Wolfville, Nova Scotia, is eager to make a personal impact.  This is his tenth year taking part in the Terry Fox Run, and he recognizes the determination and perseverance that Terry Fox personified.  William is motivated to do more than just complete the 5K event; he has created his own fundraising page online and has already raised over $700 that will translate into innovative cancer research that will make a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families.  Way to go, William! The theme of this year’s 40th anniversary event is “Try like Terry”.  During our ongoing pandemic challenge, there is no better way to generate a spirit of hope than to offer support to those in need.  I challenge all students to follow William’s lead and act now to make a difference for others.  All donations and personal fundraising efforts are appreciated greatly.  As Terry once said, “Anything is possible if you try.”
