KES Trivia Night

On Thursday, May 7^th, we had over 50 KES Parents, Alumni Parents, Grandparents, Alumni, Students and Staff join together to participate in the first KES Virtual Trivia event hosted by the Advancement and Alumni Department. Although COVID-19 has prevented us from meeting in person, we refuse to give up on meeting as a KES Community!

Jenn Shaw, KES Advancement and Alumni Officer, threw herself into the world of online trivia and became an expert quickly. She designed a series of 50 questions (often with the choice of answers featuring members of the KES Community). To participate in this game, the participants required two devices, one to join our Zoom meeting to interact with the other participants and to be able to see the screen with the trivia questions. The other device was used to login to Kahoot! where participants would choose their answer by pressing the correct coloured square.

This turned out to be a very interactive game where the lead changed many times throughout the evening. It was a complete delight to see so many people we haven’t had a chance to see in awhile. We were delighted by the turn-out from several Alumni classes in particular. Victoria Chambers of the class of 2011 rallied a crew of Alumni who are mostly based in Ontario to play. The class of 2010 had a following of at least 7 people and the class of 2019 was not to be outdone as it had at least that number playing with Joanne Huang(2019) joining in all the way from Taiwan! We had Carter Short’s grandmother, Linda, join us from Toronto while Carter, his Alumna mother Kimberley (1993), his dad, and cousin joined us from Newfoundland.

The game lasted just under an hour and at the end, it was pleasing to see that our top 5 performances stretched all the way across Canada. Miranda Walsh (2015) and her family from Falmouth finished in fifth place. Ken Dufour (husband to our amazing math Teacher, Mary Ann Dufour, and father to KES Alumni Emma (KES 2016) and Eric (2018) finished in fourth and has bragging rights in their household as they went head to head with each other! Another member of Miranda Walsh’s family finished well. Madison Walsh (KES 2013) who was playing in Coldbrook snuck past the rest of her family for a third-place finish. Now, second place featured two of our youngest Alumni, Linus Mulherin (2019) and Bryan Li (2019), who were playing from Port Williams. The question I know that you are dying to have answered is, who won? Who earned the ultimate right to brag for our first ever KES Virtual Trivia Night? Coming all the way from Victoria, BC, Karan Shetty (1995) claimed the Victor’s Circle. Karan, congratulations. You played like a champion!
