‘Novembruary’ snow squalls and a biting cold didn’t discourage enthusiastic and generous Alumni, Parents, and Friends from joining the Alumni and Advancement Department on Thursday night! With help from the leader of our Chartwell’s Dining experience, Twila MacDonald and her team (who presented a delicious spread of baked goods), we hosted more than 60 people at a Donor and Parent Appreciation Reception prior to the opening night of Mamma Mia!—a must see show, by the way.
Good conversation with friends new and old kept the room and hearts warm, along with the tenacious spirit of our special guest, Irene “Rennie” Rigold
. A truly exceptional woman and dear Friend of the School, for the last 22 years Rennie has paid it forward by donating tuition for deserving students every year. Turning 90 today (November 23rd), we were able to help Rennie ring in her big day by taking her to dinner before the show—at Lisa’s, her favourite! Unbeknownst to Rennie, once everyone was gathered in the theatre, we had a bit of a surprise planned; a lovely speech from the Headmaster, and a special presentation of flowers and a gift from Hannah Benedict (2017-18)
, the beneficiary of Rennie’s tremendous generosity last year.
At dinner, Rennie told Heather and I that she’s planning on living to 100; after seeing the way Rennie lit up when we were able to express our gratitude for all she’s done, I’m already looking forward to the celebration!Sarah Mack
