Alumna Kenzie Cecchetto '18 Recognized at Rugby National Championship

At this year’s University Sport Women’s Rugby National Championship, King’s-Edgehill School was once again represented as former team captain and current assistant coach, Kenzie Cecchetto ‘18, received national recognition. Kenzie, who is in the first year of her Bachelor of Education program at Acadia University, was awarded with the Col. W.D.C. Holmes Award. This award is presented to players identified as having made the best contributions to rugby at their university and in their community the last year. The goal of the award is to encourage the future leaders of the sport across Canada and recognize off-the-field and on-the-field performances.

After playing rugby for three years as a student here at KES, Kenzie has spent the last two years volunteering her time as an assistant coach with our team. She is a great female role model for our students and played a prominent role in our provincial championship victory last season. In addition to the countless hours she devoted to our program, Kenzie also coaches our under 16 provincial team and assists with the minor rugby program here in West Hants. Aside from rugby, Kenzie was also a captain of our girls hockey team while a student at KES, and she will be volunteering her time coaching with one of the local high school girls hockey teams in the valley this winter. Kenzie has also worked as a mentor for young girls through the Girls Walk Together program started by alumna Tessa Firth ‘18.

On the field, Kenzie was a standout not only on her team but also in the league overall. This year, she was recognized as an Atlantic University Sport all-star (along with fellow alumna Camryn Kleynhans ‘20) and was also named player of the game in one of Acadia’s matches during the national championship tournament.

With one year of studies and varsity eligibility remaining at Acadia, Kenzie will again play an integral role on our coaching staff this spring where she will continue to inspire the next generation of female rugby players here at KES.

Congratulations, Kenzie!
