Working Hard for the Win!

The girls senior division one soccer team continued their good play from last week with a win against Yarmouth this week. The team started off positive with a quick attack resulting in Charlie Brinston-Conway ‘23 having a shot graze the goalpost. Around the 15-minute mark, an unfortunate handball by a Yarmouth player gave us a penalty kick which Charlie comfortably put away, 1-0. The introduction of Ali MacLean ‘27 and Natalia Shaw ‘27 after the first half hour provided us with some extra speed in the attack. A goal by Natalia came quickly after that change, bringing us to 2-0. Following from last week's good defensive play, Sabine Wellard ‘24, Evey Kennedy ‘23, Lucy Goddard ‘23, and Madison Fleming ‘24 kept the Yarmouth forwards at bay, not allowing any dangerous shots on goal in the first half.

The second half started much like the first with Ali having good goal-scoring opportunities that went just narrowly past the goal. With continued attacking pressure by us, the next goal was soon to come. A tactical short-corner between Charlie and Ali had Charlie swing a low hard cross into the goal which Natalia put nicely away to get her second goal: 3-0. The fourth goal came late in the game as the Yarmouth defense tired. Good midfield play from Rafaela Blanco Banuet '25 and Aurelia Holle ‘25 gave Ali another breakaway, and this time she slotted the ball in the top corner, with a final score of 4-0.

The team continues to work hard and is becoming cohesive in their play each game. We are looking forward to playing Horton on October 13 at home. We hope you'll come out to cheer us on!
