Pitching Strong as KES Highlander Baseball Takes on Acadian Axemen

The Highlanders launched their season Thursday, September 8 with an exciting game under the lights at Memorial Field in Kentville against the Acadia Axemen club team. Solid pitching from the Highlanders was evident as the team entered the final seventh inning with a 2-0 lead over the collegiate players. The Axemen strung together a few line-drive hits to score three in the bottom of the seventh for a walk-off win.

 

“That was a great start to the season,” coach Wamback told the boys after the game. “Great pitching, aggressive play and solid fielding, trust the process, we are on track.”

 

Starting pitcher Mitchel Brown ‘23 pitched two scoreless innings, keeping the Axemen off balance with a variety of pitches. New addition Tyler Jenkins-Gaudet ‘25 then took the mound and pitched another stellar two innings. The left-handed Grade 10 player also recorded a double and made his presence felt with his new team. Grade 10 multi-purpose player Yasu Hojo ‘25 took the mound for two scoreless innings, establishing the team as a competitive adversary to the Axemen.

 

The Highlanders will have a series of games this term, train throughout the winter, and pursue several opportunities versus strong high school competition in the spring after training in Florida over March Break.
