The Grade 8 art class has had an amazing start to the school year. We recently completed a unit on one-point perspective, focusing on both interior and exterior drawing.
During this time, I noticed that artist Mr. Frank Metzger was visiting our campus, drawing some of our buildings. His work was a perfect example of one-point perspective. Metzger's approach was a form of plein air painting – a French term meaning “in the open air,” which refers to creating art outdoors with the subject in full view.
Students had a wonderful opportunity to meet Metzger, ask questions about his process, and discuss the challenges of drawing outdoors.
