Our Junior Girls Basketball Capture Silver!

The junior girls basketball team ventured to Liverpool on Wednesday, March 8 to compete in the 2023 Regional Basketball Championship. It was a four-team tournament format hosted by South Queens Middle School (SQMS) that saw KES match up against the home team in the first game of the day. It didn’t take long for our girls to find their momentum and pull ahead at the half by 20 points. All eight players saw the floor and worked hard to ensure we solidified our spot in the 4:00 pm championship game.

The final score of the semi-final game was 47-19. Natalia Shaw ‘27 led the way with 25 points, solid floor leadership, and aggressive defence. In between games, coaches Mrs. Judy Desroches, Mr. Andy Fields, and I took the girls on a local adventure for lunch, sightseeing, and a very popular stop at Guy’s Frenchys, Nova Scotia’s best thrift store chain! After a little retail therapy (and a $4.00 Lululemon find😊) we headed back to SQMS for the championship game.

After four quarters of play and a hard-fought battle against a bigger, stronger, and more experienced Hantsport team, the girls eventually earned themselves silver medals in the regional finals. Every player worked incredibly hard, showed impressive team spirit even when the game got tough, and never gave up until the final buzzer.

The coaches are really pleased with the progress, dedication, and teamwork of all the players this season. The junior girls basketball team is one to watch in the future!
