Finally, In-Person Debate Tournament!

King's-Edgehill debate continues to thrive in the post-COVID-19 return to in-person tournaments! We started off big with our usual attendance at the International Independent Schools Public Speaking Competition hosted by Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts on October 20-24. Vincent Armstrong ‘25, Sadie Junger ‘24 and William Larder ‘26 were our KES competitors – competing in a range of events such as persuasive speaking, interpretive reading, impromptu speaking and, of course, cross-examination debate. The topic this year was the merits of the commonwealth system.
Our team competed alongside 68 other schools from Canada, United States, Bermuda, Korea, India, and Hong Kong. We were indeed the proud hosts of this event (online) in March, so our team and their peers from Armbrae Academy were very familiar with the event and did very well overall.
It was a wonderful learning experience combined with some stops at Harvard, MIT, Charles River, and the Basketball Hall of Fame – just for added inspiration!
The next event is our King's-Edgehill Invitational Debate on Sunday, November 27. All are welcome!
