E’tasiw Mijua’jij Mekite’tasit

Our art department has had a wonderful start to the new school year, and I welcome Mr. Jon Cheverie who is teaching the Grade 6 art class. He is already doing an amazing job!

Our students from Grades 6 through Grade 12 start with learning the basics of drawing (line, observation, shapes, etc.) and then move on to working with colour and painting.

In my Grade 8 art class, we just finished one point perspective interior drawings. This class wanted to do a special project to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and to focus on Every Child Matters and the residential schools. They used shoes to represent the children and translated Every Child Matters into different languages including Mi’kmaq – E’tasiw Mijua’jij Mekite’tasit. The students chose the colours black, white, and orange for their project.

Our students are very proud of their accomplishment, and I hope you enjoy it too.
