Introducing Notes from the Spiral Staircases

Welcome to the 2021-22 school year at the King’s-Edgehill School library. We are thrilled to be back to help you find the books and resources you need for class projects and essays. What’s more, you’ll find novels, poetry, graphic novels, essays, and picture books to read for interest and pleasure. To keep our School community up to date on what is happening in the library, Marilyn Curry and I will create a series of articles called Notes from the Spiral Staircases. The inspiration for the title is the pair of beautiful metal staircases in the library. Two authors, two staircases, perfect name!

Next time you climb those stairs, you can think about the words of Alan Jacobs from his new book on reading: “I often find that thought, and indeed life as a whole, is like a winding stair: you keep revisiting the same points, the same themes, but at higher levels of experience.” Certainly, reading allows us to climb varying and various staircases for different and more nuanced perspectives on our lives and the lives of others.

Ever wonder what students do in the library when they are not reading? They play games! A group of Grade 6 students recently joined us at lunch time to play a round of cards. The library collection includes board games available to borrow including Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, Prime Climb, Forbidden Island, and Sushi Go!
