Army Cadet League of Canada Volunteerism Recognition

The year 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Army Cadet League of Canada.  The League is the governing body that provides over-watch for Army Cadet Corps across the country. To mark the occasion, the League released a commemorative coin and scroll for presentation to deserving volunteers. Our 254 Cadet Corps was fortunate to receive two issues as we had two very deserving volunteers.

Mr Jeff Smith or Smitty (as the students call him) is our Director of Visual and Performing Arts. Mr Smith has taken on the task of training and organizing the 254 Cadet Band. Smitty gives tirelessly of his time ensuring that the various elements of the band have the necessary music and instrumentation. He also serves as a role model for both the Drum Major and the Band Sergeant Major in the execution of their daily duties. Mr Smith can always be counted upon for sage advice in the execution of both weekly music training and preparation of all Corps parade events. He recognizes sound leadership and will not hesitate to inform the Commanding Officer of up-and-coming leaders and musicians. Smitty is always there for the Corps.

Mrs Clara Cisneros is the Corps volunteer supervisor for the weekly Ontree activity. Each and every week, Mrs Cisneros ensures that the bussing is available, the cadets are accounted for and that all safety measures regarding COVID-19 are followed at the activity site. Frequently, Mrs Cisneros will be thrown into situations that are demanding of her organizational skills. For example, she has often encountered a situation where a child is trapped on the apparatus and cannot get to the ground. Invariably, this will happen just as the bus is ready to depart for the School. Mrs Cisneros, without fail, will ensure there is adequate supervision, escort the bus back to the School and return to retrieve the children from the apparatus. All of this is completed with the most beautiful smile that will relax any child.
