Congratulations to the Grade 9 Class of 2021!

On Wednesday, June 2nd, we honoured our graduating Grade 9 Class of 2021.  While the COVID-19 pandemic prevented our 34 Grade 9 students and their parents from gathering on campus to celebrate with our customary Graduation Banquet, technology allowed us to gather virtually and to connect, contribute and celebrate meaningfully together.   A keepsake YouTube video was launched at 7:00 pm (KES time) and students from as far away as 12,000 kilometres watched in real time and joined in the group Zoom reception that followed.  Students shared some Junior School memories and wished their classmates well as the video journeyed from baby photos to Grade 9 memory shots.  Danica Scully, our class valedictorian, represented the group with a meaningful and authentic message, emphasizing close class connections and pandemic lessons that prepared everyone for handling the challenges of the future.  Her words were genuine and optimistic, and set the stage for a joyful reunion in September where the learning will continue as they begin their journey as Seniors together.  The beautiful rendition of “For Good” from the musical Wicked was sung by Tanvi Manchineni and Emily Mei and accompanied on piano by Lucas Martin; it highlighted the importance of friendship as they bid a moving musical farewell to the Junior School.  Our post-video Zoom reception provided the opportunity to share final reflections and summer farewells. It was appreciated by all.

Special thanks are extended to Mr. LePoidevin and Mr. Lakes for their creative videography and vision, to Mr. Campbell for sending out personal video-invitations, and to all students and teachers who made the online event such a success.  The Grade 9 Class of 2021 certainly will be missed as they leave our Junior School!
