Bingo Bonanza!

Monday, January 11th, was a day of celebration.  All of our day students reunited with our boarding community and teachers after a week of online learning at home.  The energy felt like opening day!  It was difficult not to share hugs as everyone reconnected, but the smiling eyes on the masked faces spoke volumes.  Although daylight is shorter, the Junior School day is longer with all day buses returning home now at 5:30 pm, after the last Martock run.  On Monday, this provided a perfect opportunity for all Junior students to gather in the Dining Hall for a new year’s Bingo Bonanza.  There was an added perk:   students sat in groups of six around the Dining Hall and if someone at a table won Bingo, everyone shared in the “six-pack” prize.  There was lots of excitement and camaraderie as students waited for a “straight line”, “four corners” or “around the world” on their Bingo card or their neighbour’s.  Winning students became the Bingo Callers for the next game, and international students enjoyed calling out the numbers in French, Spanish, Japanese and German before the English translations. The final match was highly sought-after as, not only did the winners clean the table of all remaining prizes, but they also had their photo taken, framed and mounted on Mr. Lakes’ “Wall of Fame” in his classroom—the ultimate prize.  It was a great time for all and a wonderful day to reconnect on campus.
