“Athletes of the Week” (AOW) are selected based on athletic performance and sportsmanship. Positive sporting behaviour is valued at KES and integral to our Athletic Philosophy and School Mission Statement emphasizing gentleness and learning and dignity and respect.

For the Week of November 9th-15th
Senior Girl - Rachel Griffith is a veteran on the volleyball court.  She is a focused, determined, and motivated athlete on and off the court.  She is always reliable and strategically positions the ball every time she plays it.  Her positive attitude and strategic approach to the game were critical in our wins against Forest Heights and West Kings.  We look forward to watching Rachel lead our team through our playoffs. Well done, Rachel!!
Senior Boy: N/A

Junior Girl - Reegan Wagg played two fantastic playoff games for the Senior Girls’ D1 team last week and was one of our top performers in the Western Regional semi-final and championship games. In the semi-final, 7-1 win against Avon View, she was a major part of the offence and scored a great goal on a rocket of a shot. In the final against Horton, Reegan ran her socks off on defence and in attack and was a major reason why KES played so well. Although she didn’t score, Reegan had the confidence and courage to step up and take a penalty shot in our game-ending shootout.

Junior Boy - Nolan Herritt has been a solid contributor the soccer team’s defensive and midfield play this term. At all places and at all times, Nolan pushed himself to the limit giving his all to each attack, defensive play and counterattack. Nolan persevered during the team’s penultimate game of the season, braving snow, cold and injury, to play a fantastic game. Well done, Nolan.

For the Week of November 2nd – 8th
Senior Girl - Jill Griffith’s passion and determination for the game of volleyball have made her a role model both on and off the court. Her natural fitness, aggression, and skill on the court were the difference makers in our playoff game against Forest Heights last week.  She led our team with her powerful jump serve which earned a large number of our points throughout the entire match and a 3 set to 0 victory. When not playing volleyball, she was leading our D1 soccer team, playing a fantastic game in two positions in the Western Regional Final game versus Horton High School. In midfield, Jill dominated the game on the ground and in the air and outbattled her Grade 12 opponents all day long. Jill’s athletic ability shone through time after time as she fed her teammates great passes. Late in the game, Jill filled in at centre-back and helped to steady our defense while she surged forward to almost score the winning goal with five minutes remaining. In the penalty shootout, Jill blasted the ball into the bottom corner to complete a truly solid game. Great work, Jill!!

Senior Boy - Daniel LeBlanc stepped up over this past weekend as a leader on the boys’ hockey team. He gave a consistent effort on every shift and didn’t quit until the games were over. Daniel was fantastic on the penalty kill being a very dependable choice for the coaching staff. In three games this past weekend Daniel also chipped in a goal and two assists for three points. Well done, Daniel!

Junior Girl - Anastasia Dewar thrives in competitive situations. On the Junior Girls’ Soccer roster, she was depended on for her endurance, and her tireless, aggressive play which she demonstrated in all league games and scrimmages. Anastasia stepped up this season to play half of the team’s games as keeper, a position she had never played before. She was keen to learn and to do her best, and above all, she wanted to play this position to help the TEAM. Anastasia embraced this challenge. In our final game versus Horton, she held off the opposing team to only one goal, and her fierce focus and fantastic jumps, catches, and kicks gave her team the confidence they needed to endure this tough match-up. Anastasia’s “never give up” attitude and overall athleticism were a huge part of the team’s success this season.

Junior Boy - Zach Roswell has been a key contributor to the offensive line this term. His speed, ball control and rocketing kick have been instrumental in the soccer team’s success this season. Zach’s finesse and poise were particularly on show at the district final, where he used his speed and sense of play to great effect. Well done, Zach.

For the Week of October 26th – November 1st
Senior Girl - Aria MacDonald decimated her previous personal 5 kilometer best by 45 seconds while running in her 6 km race at this year’s Provincial Championships. Even though there was a stacked field in the senior girls race, including all of the podium finishers from the previous year, Aria improved on her 8th place finish last year to win a bronze medal this year in a race finish that Hollywood could not write.  Congratulations, Aria.

Senior Boy - Francois Richard: The first KES runner to win a Cross Country NSSAF Provincial Championship since 1992, Francois Richard led from the start line to the finish line in dominating fashion.  By the end of the 6km course, Francois had built a lead so large that no one in the race actually saw him finish.  This was a massive improvement from last year when Francois finished 6th.  Congratulations, Francois.
