254 Goes Under Canvas

Cadets in the 254 do a variety of training.  With the new COVID-19 environment, we are making every effort this year to remain outdoors.  With this in mind, we enlisted the aid of the Supply Section of 14 Wing Greenwood.  The Wing provided us with Modular Tents.  For anyone unfamiliar with Mod Tents just remember the old MASH series on TV.  They had these long tents, 16 feet wide, 9 ft high built in many 8-foot sections.  On Wednesday afternoon, all our Platoon Sergeants, under the tutelage of the CO, learned how to construct the Mod Tent.  They then got their platoons together and started building. Who knew the talents of Aden O’Callaghan and Sydney Schwartz?  Two great Sergeants and excellent organizers.  Before the Cadet day was finished, we had assembled 10 platoon houses and a space for a mini gym.  Establishing a bivouac is a Performance Objective in Army Cadets.  With a few exceptions, our construction was A1.  Then the wind came up and repairs were necessary.  Everything worked and the Cadets learned another skill.  What a great day to be a Cadet in the 254.
