The Season of Giving
The first snowfall of the season has delighted us all with thoughts of holiday celebrations and gleeful fun outdoors. It also reminds us that the season of giving is upon us. What a wonderful response our KES Youth-in-Action Committee has had to the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Project. With approximately seventy boxes filled and $690 in cash donations, the mission was a huge success. There will be happy children in the developing world who will be excited to open their special Christmas shoebox. The project is a great one. Hats off to our Youth-in-Action team for providing this opportunity for all. Students chose a boy or girl and an age category, and bought toys, hygiene items and school supplies that they tightly packed into a shoebox destined for a global child in need. Ten dollars also was included to cover the cost of shipping. The time frame was short, as all completed shoeboxes had to be in just after Remembrance Day. I was impressed as I watched the pyramid of shoeboxes grow with each passing day. The sense of satisfaction on Christmas morning will be real as our students imagine the surprise in the eyes of the young child they supported a world away. Stay tuned for the next Youth-in-Action project that will support our local families and children in need. What a delightful way to start the season!
