KES Reaches Final at the Rothesay Top of the Hill Tournament
Kes goes 3-0 in round robin to secure place in the final.
The KES varsity girls soccer team put on a clinic at Rothesay-Netherwood today defeating Saint John High School 8-1 before earning a well-deserved 3-1 victory over the hosts in their 2nd game.
In the morning, the girls moved the ball very well and began to appreciate the importance of wide play and quick ball movement as they peppered the Saint John defensive corp. The goals came early and often and despite a few moments of the game being 2-1, there was never any doubt what the outcome would be. Amy Marchand-Dion, Kyra Jarvis, and Lea MacLeod each scored 2 goals while singles were added by Amelia Humphries and Mae Batherson. Lea MacLeod's second goal off of a wonderfully built up cross from Mae Batherson would have made any highlight reel! All of the girls played a great match. In the afternoon, the competition was much better as the two independent schools squared off. RNS had a couple early chances but our defenders dove in front of everything to ensure the ball stayed out of harms way. Co-captain Amy Marchand-Dion openeed the scoring with an amazing display of physicality and finesse after outworking the defender and curling the ball into the right corner; equally impressive wsa the through ball from Mae Batherson. An amazing stretch of soccer followed the goal with the entire KES back line shutting down waves of RNS pressure. Julia Schmitt, Amelia Humphrey, Taylor Amirault, and Kenzie Cecchetto were outstanidng in their tackling and distribution. Marchand-Dion doubled the lead after she was bowled over by the RNS goalie inside of the area, and earned a PK. The game remained 2-0 well into the second half when Amy completed her hattrick to secure the victory. RNS scored a consolation marker with 3 minutes remaining. Despite the scoreline - the game was as close as it was intense. An excellent game to watch as the girls showed how much they're willing to compete and sacrifice to earn the win for their team. Hannah Smith, Tea Racozi, Lea MacLeod, and Mae Batherson were dominant in the midfield and our wingers - Heather Stanton, Kyra Jarvis, Maddy Smith, and Jill Miller provided wide great options all day. Our backline didn't miss a beat when Kathleen Balcome, Julia Strickey, and Lara Kretzinger filled in at wing back, and Amanda Whelan looked dangerous up front in the latter stages of the match. Maddy Walsh was excellent in goal and made several huge saves to keep RNS off the scoresheet when there was still plenty of time left. The girls earned a place in the final tomorrow morning vs. Dr. J. H. Gillis at 9 am.
