In order to assist our students in achieving positions at the most prestigious post-secondary institutions in the world, King's-Edgehill School offers a full university counselling programme which begins in the spring of Grade Eleven and continues through to the end of Grade Twelve. In September of the Grade Twelve year, students attend university preparatory classes once a week for approximately six weeks. In these classes students are given information about universities, programmes, prerequisites, etc., and are required to complete three assignments in relation to these topics. Subsequent to this phase students then meet with Mr. Naugler for individual counselling sessions on a weekly basis where individual plans of action are discussed along with any concerns that the student may have. In this phase, students are given information and assistance in applying for the myriad scholarships that are available to them.
Our students apply to universities worldwide, the highest proportion being in Canada, the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Applicants to American and U.K. universities typically have to meet earlier deadlines and the applications and accompanying documentation must be sent before the Christmas break. As King's-Edgehill School is an SAT test centre, these tests are administered on campus five times per year. Students interested in applying to U.S. universities typically begin studying and writing the SATs in the spring of their Grade Eleven year and the PSATs in the October of Grade Eleven. Students applying to Canadian universities have various deadlines, most of which are during the winter term. The counselling sessions continue until the end of the Grade Twelve year and assistance is rendered in decision making at all steps of the process, including which offers of admission to accept.
