Over our long history we have sent our students to top universities in many countries throughout the world, but our activity in this regard has increased dramatically in the last six years. For example, we have had students admitted to universities such as Harvard, MIT, Dartmouth, Edinburgh, Cornell, Princeton, Toronto, Boston College, Pennsylvania, The Cooper Union, St. Andrews, Bowdoin, and so on. We have a very long list of distinguished alumni, twelve of whom are Rhodes Scholars. To name just a few: Fathers of Canadian Confederation Robert Barry Dickey and John Hamilton Gray; Chief Justice of Canada Roland R. Ritchie; Chief Justice of Lower Canada, Sir James Stuart; Chief Justice of Nova Scotia, Sir Charles Townshend; Chief Justices of Prince Edward Island, James Edward Jarvis and Thomas Cochron; Chief Justice of Newfoundland, Noel Goodridge; Lt. Col. (then Major General) John E.W. Inglis, hero of Lucknow in 1857; author Thomas Haliburton.
We have been recognized for our academic excellence in many ways, but one is particularly interesting: One of our students graced the cover of TIME magazine (October, 1998) which featured a story investigating the traits and habits of excellent students. Further, over the last six years, each of our graduating classes (consisting of about 80 students each) have exceeded $1,000,000.00 in scholarships. Our highest one year total was $1.6 million in 2001. The current five year average is $1,184,827.
